D’Prince Announces Latest Signing To His Label, GDZILLA

D’Prince made an announcement that rocked the internet on August 30, 2023, on his social media website. The head of the music business announced on Twitter that Jonzing World has signed a brand-new musician. This newcomer is referred to as GDZILLA.

What distinguishes this announcement from others? The newly signed artist’s face was obscured to us! They concealed their features with an almost comical dinosaur mask, similar to Lagbaja.

In the photograph, the artist is shown alongside D’Prince donning a grey costume and a dinosaur mask. Because he has only recently created social media profiles, we don’t yet know the artist’s real identity.

Now that D’Prince has made this declaration, all eyes are on him. It’s no secret that D’Prince has a keen eye for talented musicians. Ruger and Rema were both signed to his record company. With their songs, the two musicians have gone on to break records both domestically and internationally. Now everyone is wondering if he can make GDZILLA his third consecutively successful act.

We have a lot of questions about this brand-new, enigmatic artist. But before anything else, we need to know how his music sounds and when his debut song will be released.

D’Prince is raising the stakes while we wait for more GDZILLA-related material.

Samuel Wise Bangura in Limbo as John Konteh Takes Over as Host of AYV on Sunday

The career trajectory of Samuel Wise Bangura, a renowned Sierra Leonean journalist and TV presenter, has been cast into doubt after a new host was announced for the AYV on Sunday TV show.

Since 2018, Samuel Wise Bangura has been the host of the AYV on Sunday, a program where critical issues of national interest are discussed. However, Bangura has not made any television appearance since early August when he was accused of illegal activities.

On August 8, 2023, Bangura reported a robbery, claiming a loss of $7,000, an iPhone 14 Pro Max, among other valuables. However, conflicting reports from social media platforms and other sources suggest Bangura might have been involved in dubious activities. A circulating video allegedly portrays Bangura participating in illicit money-doubling schemes. Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), commented that Bangura, when approached, refuted the video’s implications and mentioned he was pursuing an investigation on money doubling.

IMC Boosts Radio Kolenten FM 90.7 in Kambia with Essential Equipment

The Independent Media Commission (IMC), in a significant gesture of support, on Tuesday August 22, 2023, generously provided a desk-top computer and two transistor solar-powered radio sets to Radio Kolenten FM 90.7, located in the Kambia District of the North-West Region. The formal presentation of these valuable resources took place at the IMC’s headquarters on 54 Siaka Steven Street in Freetown.

During the ceremony, Khalil Kallon, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, highlighted the pioneering nature of the donation, introduced by IMC’s Chairman, Dr. Victor Massaquoi. Kallon explained that this initiative stemmed from the insights gained during the Commission’s comprehensive nationwide inspections conducted in 2022. These inspections shed light on the specific needs of community radio stations. Kallon emphasized that the donation exemplifies the IMC’s commitment to addressing the pressing challenges confronted by community radio stations across the country. The selection process for the recipients was based solely on adherence to regulations and demonstrated merit.

Dr. Victor Massaquoi, the Chairman of the IMC, formally handed over the items to Ibrahim Janneh, the Station Manager of Radio Kolenten FM 90.7. Dr. Massaquoi shared that the inspiration behind this donation came from the multitude of challenges identified during the media inspection in 2022. The Commission’s response included formulating concept notes and approaching various institutions and organizations interested in supporting community development initiatives. The generous contribution, comprising two desktop computers and 20 solar-powered transistor radio sets, was made possible with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone. These radio sets are slated to be distributed to 10 community radio stations throughout the nation, while the two desktop computers have been allocated to Moyamba District Children’s Awareness Radio (MODCAR) in Moyamba District and Kolenten Radio in Kambia District.

Citing Section 11 (b) of the IMC Act 2020, Dr. Massaquoi underscored that the Commission’s key role is to enhance the efficiency of media institutions in delivering media services. He revealed the Commission’s forthcoming plan to establish a transmitter pool specifically catering to community radio stations. This strategic move aims to swiftly address transmitter malfunctions, ensuring uninterrupted broadcasting. Dr. Massaquoi accentuated the pivotal role community radio stations play in facilitating democratic discourse by giving a voice to the marginalized. However, he lamented that many of these stations are grappling with non-functional transmitters due to technical inadequacies in their installation.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of Radio Kolenten 90.7 FM, Ibrahim Janneh, the Station Manager, conveyed the station’s elation at this unexpected and much-needed support. He assured that this benevolent gesture would be communicated not only to the station’s Board and staff but also to the wider Kambia District and North-West Region. Janneh affirmed Radio Kolenten’s steadfast commitment to upholding both the IMC Act 2020 and its corresponding regulations.

Eight Public Entities Fail to Submit Financial Statements for Audit

Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL), in a recent development, has issued a public notice dated August 22nd, 2023, highlighting a pressing matter regarding financial transparency and accountability. According to Section 119(2) of the 1991 Constitution, it is mandated that the Auditor-General conducts audits on the Public Accounts of Sierra Leone as well as all public offices, including Governmental bodies, courts, universities, and similar institutions. This also extends to statutory corporations, companies, and organizations established through parliamentary acts or other means involving public funds.

Citing Section 86(1) of the Public Financial Management Act of 2016, the ASSL emphasized that entities falling under subsection (3) of Section 86 are required to submit their annual financial statements to the Auditor-General within three months of the closure of a financial year.

The Act further clarifies that the annual financial statements of public enterprises should be subject to audit by the Auditor-General or another appointed auditor, as specified by Section 118(1)(b) of the same Act.

The Acting Auditor-General of Sierra Leone has revealed that a number of key institutions have failed to meet their obligations by neglecting to submit their financial statements for auditing purposes. These institutions and their corresponding years of non-compliance are as follows:

1. Sierra Leone Housing Corporation – 2022

2. Electoral Commission Sierra Leone – 2022

3. Sierra Block Concrete Products Limited – 2022

4. Sierra Leone State Lottery Company Limited – 2022

5. Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation – 2022

6. Sierra Leone Telecommunication Company – 2020 to 2022

7. National Investment Board – Since its Formation

8. National Asset Commission – Since its Formation

This significant failure to fulfill their auditing requirements raises concerns about the transparency and accountability of these institutions. Given their receipt of substantial funds from budgetary allocations and Government subsidies, the aggregate amount of finances involved is considerable.

The citizens of Sierra Leone are now looking to these institutions to rectify this issue promptly and adhere to their financial reporting obligations. The expectation is for a thorough and diligent accounting of the funds entrusted to them, as this is crucial for upholding the principles of fiscal responsibility and effective governance

Over Electoral Information Access DenialAugustine S. Marrah Esq. Petitions Right to Access Information Commission

Well-known Legal Practitioner, Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah Esq., has formally petitioned the Right to Access Information Commission on the 22nd August, 2023, seeking a comprehensive review of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone’s (ECSL) refusal to provide requested information. The request pertains to certified and verified district-level results of the Presidential, Local and General Elections conducted on June 24, 2023.

In a strongly worded letter, dated July 28, 2023, Marrah invoked Section 2(1) of the Right to Access Information Act 2013 to solicit information from ECSL, particularly concerning the possession of the sixteen districts’ certified summary results by respective District Returning Officers in accordance with Section 92(1) of the Public Elections Act 2022.

Additionally, he sought details regarding the verification process of these results by political parties’ agents, along with access granted to counting agents and observers, as specified by Section 92(2) of the Public Elections Act 2022.

The letter, which was addressed to the Right to Access Information Commission in light of its supervisory role, highlighted ECSL’s statutory obligation to respond within fifteen days, as stipulated by Section 4 of the Right to Access Information Act 2013. However, the deadline expired on August 18, 2023, without any communication or response from ECSL.

Marrah has interpreted ECSL’s silence as a deliberate refusal to fulfill his information request. Subsequently, invoking the provisions of Section 43 of the Right to Access Information Act 2013, Marrah has formally sought the Right to Access Information Commission’s intervention. He requests an impartial review of ECSL’s decision to deny or neglect to confirm the availability of the requested information or to grant access to the same.

The Right to Access Information Commission, empowered by law to monitor and report on public authorities’ adherence to the Right to Access Information legislation, is expected to undertake this review within the stipulated legal timeframe.

Augustine S. Marrah’s fervent request for a review of ECSL’s actions underscores the critical importance of transparency and accountability in electoral processes, a sentiment central to the foundations of democratic governance.

I’m an activist because I’m compassionate, not to become a politician – Falz

Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, well known as Falz, has explained that being a politician is not one of the reasons for him acting as an activist.

The lawyer-cum-rapper said that his compassion is the reason for his advocacy in Nigeria during a recent interview on Tacha’s The Big Friday Show.

Falz said:

“Compassion, I just care and I cannot afford to witness everything I witness and not say anything and not do anything about it. It’s just the way that I’m built. Nobody is putting fire on my backside and telling me that I must do this or I must do that, it just comes.”

Falz also said that he had no intention or desire to go into politics when he was asked about any political aspirations.

The singer who just dropped a new song, “NDIKE” alongside Odumodublvck and flavour,  further stated that not all activists wanted to run for political offices.

In his words:

“I am not a politician, but I think that everyone should know what they want for themselves and focus on that. There are people that are activists that never really make that transition into politics. Not every activist you see is positioning themselves for political positions.”

Returning to his motivations, the rapper said that even if he is well-known and does not “have to,” he is an activist because he is unable to ignore the wrongs and refuse to work for a better future.

https://youtu.be/6gI9PqKXrRE

He said, “I can afford not to like you said but in my mind, I feel like I cannot afford to ignore everything that I witness, and that’s my reason.”

New Ministers And The Private Sector: Behold The “Long Bench

It is early days yet to find out if this new government will take the private sector rhetoric beyond mere platitudes and move into meaningful action. Many Ministers fail to embrace the private sector, only to return to a vacuous sector when they leave office. I consider it obligatory to make reference to the “long bench”, if only because I do not want our new Ministers to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Every government professes to support the private sector, referring to it as the “engine of growth” but normally fails to put oil in the engine. The new Finance Minister in his recent budget speech continued the refrain……. “Mr. Speaker, Honourable Members, Government recognizes the important role of the private sector in promoting sustainable growth and job creation. Government will therefore sustain efforts aimed at providing a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive. In this regard, Government is working with development partners to design and implement reforms to stabilize the economy, improve the business regulatory environment, enhance access to

finance and provide basic infrastructure to improve the ease of doing business.”

Chike Shares His Opinion On Baby Mamas

Nigerian singer and composer, Chike has discussed his views on fathering children with baby mamas outside of marriage.

When asked his views of the expanding trend of baby mothers in the contemporary music industry during an interview with The Cable Lifestyle, the “If You No Love” singer acknowledged that there are specific situations in which some women end up becoming mothers in response. He had no prejudice against fathers of unmarried children. To him, pregnancies were inevitable from time to time.

Chike said, “I do not have anything against it; it was not an intentional thing for most people. So yes, you never know. You know when a man and a woman enter a room and turn off the light, you know what will happen. I would say it happens; I mean, if you are having sex, there is a chance that there will be a product of that sexual relationship, right?”

Having baby mamas, he said, is no longer as taboo as it once was because of how times have evolved. It used to be considered improper to have children outside of marriage, but this is no longer the case. In his words, “A couple of years ago, it used to be considered taboo, but it does not look like one now. I really do not have any opinion on that. The goal is for that not to happen, but if it happens, we will take it as it is.”

In addition, he said that even though he has no plans to become a father, if it were to happen, he would do everything in his power to protect the child. He made light of the fact that everything can be perceived as scandalous, depending on the viewpoint of each individual.

I’ve been on the ground, trying to put in work and get my stuff together because the new wave is so crazy right now and you just have to figure a way to be in tune with time, which is not easy so I’ve been working on that for so long. That’s why it took me so long.”

The singer when asked why he created his record label, responded that he created YBNL as a way to reinvest in his passion instead of spending his fortunes on just fun.

He said:

“The world is in love with my stuff, [and] I’m grateful for it but now it’s time to make sure I reinvest in that same thing that’s making you love and appreciate me. It used to be just passion but it’s high time I step up, reinvest and make this a proper business.”

“I set up my own label, and started signing artists because I didn’t want all that money to just go wasted on ballin’ and all that! All that money had to go back into the grind, man. That’s how the whole thing started.”

Olamide released his historic 10th album “Unruly” , On August 9th, it was preceded by the singles ‘Trumpet‘ featuring CKay and ‘New Religion‘ featuring Asake.

According to Olamide, the album is likely to be his final, and it provides fans with a bittersweet experience as they reflect on the iconic artist’s career.

He said:

“That is why the Nigerian artistes are moving faster than us… Davido came to Ghana and drove straight to my house, Burna Boy came to Ghana and I stayed with him for one and a half years. Don’t they see that?

“This is a guy that could have taken up first before these boys go? Now see where Burna boy, Davido and Wizkid are, we can compare no single artiste including me to them, just because we don’t want the growth of our artistes.”

“Yet I consistently leverage these opportunities to transform negativity into positivity for my personal gain.”

Sylvia Blyden reflect on her surviving a terrible plane crash in 2004

I survived this terrible plane crash exactly 19 years ago on Wednesday 11th August 2004 at around 2:30pm in the afternoon when this Boeing 737 Plane operated by Air Guinea Express crashed – few minutes after taking off from Lungi International Airport.

We were up the air when one of the Engines actually just fell off the plane with a loud supersonic 💥 BOOM; causing the plane to gyrate and somersault in the air and then, by the grace of God Almighty, it crash landed – right side up – into a pool of thick soaking wet green swamp.

As the plane ✈ dropped into the swamp, the speed was so high that it continued to travel moving forwards inside the swamp towards the forest. The velocity of impact had created a huge splash of thick mud that shot up over a hundred feet into the air splashing up as the plane moved until it finally stopped before reaching the trees.

The entire plane by then was covered in thick mud. These pictures were taken several days after when the heavy rains had washed the thick mud off the plane. By this time of taking these photos, myself and several passengers had been admitted in hospital.

I had been traveling to Banjul, The Gambia where I had been operating a lucrative commercial communications company that was a premier Consultant to several Gambian state institutions including the Office of the President, the Gambia Telecommunications (GAMTEL) and the Gambia Radio & Television Services (GRTS).

Surviving this crash was a sheer miracle. We give God the Glory. We day ya so first.🤗 We have a purpose to fulfil on Earth.
