Press Union of Liberia President Coffey Suffers Broken Leg In Fatal Car Accident

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) outgoing President, Charles Coffey has suffered a broken leg in fatal motor accident with one death recorded.

According to information gathered, the unfortunate situation involving the outgoing PUL president occurred on late Sunday night, May 28, 2023 near Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Charles Coffey and his driver were plying the Firestone- Buchanan highway when one of his vehicle’s tires punctured.

It is being reported that Mr. Coffey and his driver then hired a commercial motorcyclist to take them to Buchanan to fix/get a new tire but while riding on the bike, a speeding vehicle ran into them, thus killing the Mortobike rider, injuring Coffey and his driver.

They were later taken to the Government Hospital in Buchanan for emergency treatment before being transferred to Monrovia by former Representative Byron Brown but was later transferred from the Buchanan Hospital to JFK in Monrovia where he is seeking medical attention.

Meanwhile, Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Jawalah Tonpo on behalf of the Government has payed an official visit to the out going PUL President at the JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia.

Speaking to Journalists on late Monday evenings of May 29, 2023, Deputy Minister Tonpo says, it is his responsibility as one of the focal persons between the Government and the Press to have reached out to Mr. Coffey to see how speedy his broken leg can be treated with urgency.

“On behalf of the Government, we will as often as possible ensure the welfare of Journalists and we are making sure that Mr. Coffey gets the needed urgent attention as we wish him speedy recovery,” he added.
