Covid-19 patients will die, we’re at breaking point – Indian Hospitals warn

Hospitals in Delhi, India have reportedly warned that many more coronavirus patients will lose their lives.

According to the hospitals, they are at breaking point in their fight against the pandemic in India.

India has already recorded about 16.6 million coronavirus cases, making it the second country next to the United States, with the worst coronavirus infections in the world.

The Asian nation has recorded an estimated 190,000 coronavirus related deaths.

Hospitals in the country including the Holy Family Hospital intensive units, are said to be full with Coronavirus patients. Local media reports suggest there are no more rooms for any beds.

A senior medical doctor, Dr Sumit Ray, in a television interview monitored by African Entertainment on BBC, noted that “Almost every hospital is on the edge. If oxygen runs out, there is no leeway for many patients.”

“Within minutes, they will die. You can see these patients: they’re on ventilators, they require high-flow oxygen. If the oxygen stops, most of them will die,” according to him.

Hospitals are reported to be sending out SOS message in demand for oxygen.

For instance, Moolchand Hospital, said to be having 135 Covid patients on life support, is reportedly in need of oxygen.

Speaking on India’s NDTV, Moolchand’s medical director Madhu Handa, said “We have retained all our night staff to make sure we save as many lives as we can.”

“We hope the supply comes in time but we’re keeping our fingers crossed, and this is a never-ending thing: it happens every day,” the medical director added.
