Treat Anyone Engaged in Galamsey as a Criminal – Essikado Omanhene

The Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketiah IV, has urged Government and law enforcement officers to see any person engaged in illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey as a criminal.

According to him, anyone engaged in Galamsey is a criminal and must be dealt with as such.

The Omanhene made the call when the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, called on him at his palace in Takoradi on Monday, April 26, 2021.

He stated that Galamsey was anti-Ghana, alleging that  Ghanaians were the ones   fronting for Chinese and all other foreigners who come into the country to mine illegally.

According to him, when it comes to the fight against galamsey, all obstacles be it political must be removed.

He said there should not be any political colours when it comes to the fight against galamsey.

He noted that the founders of the nation shed their blood to build Ghana and that it was time for all to contribute to stopping galamsey in the country.

He said if the Akufo-Addo’s government failed in the fight against galamsey then its memory will be lost in history.

Mr. Jinapor is in the Western Region for a two-day working visit.
