No permit issued for mining in Mole Park – Minerals Commission

The Minerals Commission of Ghana has dismissed claims of permit being issued for mining activities in the Mole National Park in the Savannah Region.

Some Civil Soceity Organizations (CSOs) has alleged that Mining Permits have been issued for mining in or near the Mole National Park in the Savannah Region.

But a rejoinder issued by the Minerals Commission and signed by its Acting CEO, Martin Ayisi, said “This allegation and/or assertion is not the case. No such Mining Permit has been issued for the this purpose.”

“The Commission as the repository of records of all Mineral Rights in Ghana, entreats the General Public particularly CSOs, who are partners and have been working closely with the Commission over the years, to seek clarifications from it before going public,” it added.

Mole National Park is the largest national park in Ghana and provides the best wildlife experience in Ghana. This was the first national park to be established in Ghana and it covers an area of 4,912km².

Mole National Park has the widest range of wildlife in Ghana and is the only place in Ghana where you can experience elephants in the wild. In addition to the elephants, you will see antelope, bushbucks, monkeys, warthogs, baboons and other smaller wildlife.
