Motorists in Johannesburg warned to expect traffic jam

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has told motorists in the City to expect traffic jam for two days.

According to the JMPD, there will be road closures today, May 4, and May 5, 2021.

The closures are as a result of Johannesburg’s address at the Metro Centre in Braamfontein over the course of two days.

JMPD announced this in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Spokesperson, Xolani Fihla.

According to the statement, JMPD officers will be deployed to regulate traffic on the affected routes from 7am to 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Affected routes:

• Harrison Street
• Jorissen Street
• Rissik Street
•De Korte Street
•Civic Boulevard
•Hoofd Street

“Officers will be deployed to regulate traffic from 7am to 4pm. Jorissen Street will be closed to traffic on Tuesday between Biccard Street and Civic Boulevard from 8.30am to 10am for the formation and procession of the motorcade,” the statement indicated.

“Traffic congestion can be expected. We are appealing to road users to be patient at that moment and to acquaint themselves with traffic management so they can plan their routes accordingly,” according to the statement.
