Melinda Gates, the estranged wife of American tech billionaire, Bill Gates, has revealed in court documents that their marriage is irretrievably broken.
The court documents were first published by TMZ.
In the documents sighted by African Entertainment, Melinda asked the judge to rule the marriage ended “as of the date in the separation contract.”
The billionaire couple announced in a joint statement shared on their verified Twitter accounts on Monday, May 3, 2021, that they were bringing their 27 years marriage to an end.
According to the couple, they have made a decision to end their marriage, announcing that, “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”
The Gates indicated that “We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.”
Their divorce documents makes it clear there is no PRENUP.
The couple started dating back in 1987 after meeting at a New York trade show.
Melinda went on to work in marketing for Microsoft and be appointed as General Manager of Information Products in the early ’90s.
They got married on January 1, 1994 in Hawaii.
