The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu has been cleared to run for reelection.
Zambia is heading to the polls in August 2021.
Members of Zambia’s opposition had argued that Mr Lungu could not run because he has served more than the legally mandated two terms.
However, Zambia’s constitutional court ruled that he had only served one term, since the first one did not comprise the full five years.
This year, about 20 presidential hopefuls have registered to contest the election.
Zambia’s Electoral Commission has already called on all parties to avoid mass rallies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
