The Grammy Awards now include three new categories including Best African Music Performance.

The annual global award that honours artists achievement all over the world, Grammy Awards, has added three new categories thanks to the Recording Academy which oversees it.

The African music is gradually becoming more well-known force to reckon with on a global scale.

The Grammys have included three new categories: best African music performance, best pop dance recording, and best alternative jazz album.

It has been reported that, the added categories were voted on and passed at the academy’s Board of Trustees meeting in May 2024.

This means that the Grammys possess a total of 94 categories in the inaugural edition of their 66th edition, which will air in 2024.

The new African category, which is anticipated to be extremely competitive, has undoubtedly benefited from the popularity of African singers like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, CKay, Rema, Black Sherif, Yemi Alade, and others.

This new category will be intriguing since it encompasses deeply ingrained genres like Fuji, High Life, Kizomba, and many more in addition to the well-known Afrobeats subgenre.
